We offer two methods of placenta encapsulation: the Raw method and the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method. Additional herbs of your choice (for example, Red Raspberry Leaf, Alfalfa, etc) may be added with both methods of preparation, for a small additional charge. We also offer the option of keeping several small pieces of raw placenta to freeze for use in smoothies, if desired (this will decrease the number of pills we will be able to make from your placenta).
The Raw Method of Encapsulation: There are some who believe that cooking the placenta causes degradation of the nutrients, enzymes, and hormones that provide you benefits. Therefore, we offer the option of preparing your placenta using a "raw foods" method. The raw encapsulation process still involves dehydrating your placenta and grinding it to put into pills, however it will never reach the higher cooking temperatures used in the Traditional Chinese Medicine method. For this reason, there is some level of inherent risk in consuming placenta pills prepared using the raw method, because the placenta will never reach the temperature required to kill any pathogens that may be present. Some mothers claim to have a more noticeable energy boost using raw method encapsulated placenta pills, presumably due to a higher hormone content in pills prepared in this way.
The Traditional Chinese Medicine Method of Encapsulation: This is the oldest and most popular method of placenta encapsulation. This process involves gently steaming the placenta with herbs before dehydrating and grinding it to be encapsulated. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the encapsulated placenta is considered to have a tonifying effect, therefore you should not take your placenta pills if you are sick with a cold, the flu, or an infection (such as mastitis).
